Man’s First Big Step For Mankind

Posted by: Sadie  :  Category: LifeStyles

It’s been a while since I did a synopsis on ‘The Journey of Man’ as told and revisited by Spencer Wells.  But fortunately for me, the information and the findings will not disappear or go away.   One thing those findings have vehemently affirmed is that We are one peoples.

Let me veer off on a tangent, ok … when we speak about EVIL, we can make lists of ‘what is consider dark’.  But I think this separation of nations, this need we seem to have to assert our empiricism and separatism is akin to an EVIL.  We go to WAR to defend this ideology, we kill our neighbors our friends and family members to maintain those boundaries.

In actuality the only boundaries that really exists on this planet are those created by Mother Nature, the only lines that divide one country, province, state, county, city or town from another are ‘man made’ divisions and these can easily be altered.  Different languages are insignificant … a language can be learned, different forms of dress shouldn’t be an issue … an outfit is easy to recreate; the differences in cuisine’s isn’t a biggy … they are child’s play to replicate; none of this matters, none of this is enough to justify an imaginary line being drawn between any 2 area’s on a planet that belongs to all of us equally.

During our 50+ millennia on this planet, technically we have advanced exponentially but our humanity, our tolerance for ethnic differences and our acceptance of our brother’s and our neighbor uniqueness has digressed.  Sometimes it appears as though we frantically search for reasons to erect yet another barrier, as if there isn’t already an overflow of boundaries.   Just imagine what life would be like if our love for life in all of it’s forms could have kept pace with our technological advances.

What’s wrong with us … or maybe it’s me, maybe I’m missing a big piece of this puzzle …

A Composite Model Of Every Face

As I mentioned before, Spencer’s research is focused on the genetic decent of man.  According to his findings, modern day man’s journey started around 50,000+ years ago.  Scientist in the fields of paleontology, genetics and linguistics have gathered evidence from numerous sources that supports the theory that man started exhibiting various forms of creativity and behavior during this period.

At that time, the migration began from the eastern regions of Africa and steadily moved northward.  Eventually branching out and spreading into other continents which  we now call Asia and Europe and subsequently they continued to migrate which lead to the colonization of this world our home.

Let’s accompany Spencer on a journey that takes him back to where it all began and re-introduce ourselves to ‘our humble beginning’s … to the direct descendants of an ancestor that appears to be more gentle, trusting and loving than we are … what happened to us?

I enjoy watching movies, network series and cartoons. However, I think my TV fixation is the result of a genetic flaw…there must be some type of coding embedded in one of my genes that is responsible for the love I have for this media. Some people say TV rots the brain, but no matter…I ain’t giving it up. Whatever the cause…I really enjoy watching TV.

As a matter of fact,  just the other day while channel surfing I came across a program on the Discovery Channel that nearly brought me too tears for two reason.  Firstly the story was about a woman that was dying because of an enormous tumor that was growing on the lower portion of her back and thighs. And secondly…because of the outpouring of love from her family and community as they urgently worked together desperately in an effort to save her life, it was so moving, I was simply fighting back the tears.

This wife, mother and daughter had suffered and had been unable to walk for more than three years, while this growth took over the lower portion of her body…and her life. She has Neurofibromatosis also called Von Recklinghausen’s disease, a rare genetic disorder characterized by the development of multiple noncancerous (benign) tumors of nerves and skin. Wow, that’s a mouthful…this women was a very attractive 47 year old lady, which wasn’t at all obvious from the first glimpses that I had seen of her. OMGosh this parasitic growth was literally sucking the life from her. Due to it’s growth and it’s needs she was suffering from a damaged heart besides numerous other conditions related to this thing.

But there was a Happy Ending to this saga,  one day she decided to watch one of her favorite shows on the telly…The Discovery Channel, and believe it or not… they were airing a story about a woman who had the exact same condition as she had…and how a Doctor from America had brought her back from the brink of extinction and saved her from the ‘jaws of death’.

And although too much of anything isn’t good for you, just a little bit of TV could save your life…it did save this ladies life.

Just the other day I seen a program on one of those DIY channels that was really disturbing. Love DIY, and I like this show somewhat, but it always leaves me with questions. Sometimes, I am left wondering whether or not the moderators have gone too far and sometimes I wonder about the families that called this DIY team in.

Well, this particular show sort of had me wondering about the family. There were no children, just a husband and a wife…the husband had a back injury and was unable to work…and I don’t think the wife was working either. I missed the very beginning of the program, so I am missing some of the elements in this drama.

Anyway the crew was called in to declutter, refurnish and give this family a ‘fresh start’. This house was horrible, and there weren’t any children although this couple wanted to have children and they wanted to convert one of their rooms into a nursery. Upon entering  this home, you literally walked across,on top of, through cluttered floors, there was no place in this home that wasn’t littered with stuff. The kitchen and bathroom…honestly shouldn’t have been used even by the owners, I am certain both rooms harboured unseen disease causing bacteria. Their beds and the bedroom floor was bulging with ‘god knows what’ from the entry door to the furthest corner of the room. Now I am not over dramatizing and I don’t want to appear condescending…but this home was frightening.

And what was more frightening was the fact that they wanted children. Now you might say that maybe they just really needed someone to help them start their life afresh. There have been many couples and families appearing on this show that I believed this to be true. However, I didn’t believe this couple could actually pull that off, and what I mean by that is I don’t think they are capable  of changing.

When you call in this DIY crew…you know what to expect…a major makeover. They are going to eliminate anything they deem unnecessary, however this couple was unwilling to sacrifice anything. Their home was bordering on unlivable, there wasn’t any room for anything, and they turned a deft ear to suggestions that would lead to improvements, and were reluctant and unwilling about letting any of their things go. They cried when discussing just how special certain items were too them, and the husband had numerous pending hobbies that were sitting ‘on the burner’…he had the stuff needed for these projects…but for years that stuff lay somewhere untouched. Reluctantly the crew allowed them to box items that they just couldn’t part with…and because there were so many boxes…those boxes had to be placed in a storage unit while the renovations were being done in their home. When the remodel was complete, and the items from the storage unit were returned to the home…that stuff filled up 50 large storage bins…8o(

Honestly, the house looked as though it had never ever been cleaned. They actually removed 25lbs. of ‘pet poop’.  Now if the call to this program by them was just an unconscious attempt at getting attention, then everything the DIY team attempted to do was all for nothing.

I sure hope that this team returns to that home, I really don’t believe that this couple will maintain the changes. I would be overjoyed if they did, but I really don’t believe they can.

And the thoughts that come flooding through my mind when I envision this family having a child is disturbing…

Wow…what a week it has been? And Our Mother Earth for a change has been in the SPOTLIGHT! You gotta admit for too..too long, we have trashed her, gutted her, overlooked or dismissed our connectedness too her, put our selfish desires before her’s and just stomped and abused her without any thoughts about her NEEDS.

Now, finally The Big ‘Cs’ gets it, there is money and lots of money to be made by utilizing our cast-off’s. What a Revelation…an Epiphany…finally the light bulb was turned on for the Big Corp’s.

Have you seen Wally’s commercial over at WALMART, about what the benefits to the environment would be if say a few million of their shoppers were to purchase certain products. The commercial is pure genius, some little ’sly devil’ is slatted for a promotion for coming up with that one. But whoever he/she was ‘you just gotta luv em’. Bold and Screaming displays like this are necessary, changes are mandatory. We must work together…ALL OF US…too make sure our children and their children have a healthy planet to call HOME a hundred years from now. This is not Science Fiction guys/gals, as they say…the future is in our hands…and it’s everyone’s responsibility.

But irregardless of what the motivation was for standing up and announcing to the world, that it’s time to make better choices, more informed choices…that step has been taken by a GIANT. If they remain a fore runner, a force in the fight to reverse the damage done to our planet…then there really is ‘hope’ for the future.

It doesn’t matter where you start…JUST START…have family and friends over for dinner more often [just think of the energy saved if 4 houses are in the dark for the evening, because they are dining with friends or family] recycle, buy second hand, have a yard sale, turn lights off in rooms that are not occupied, don’t leave the water running, before you go shopping look in your closet…way, way back in your closet, use less toxic cleaning products…OMGosh vinegar and baking soda have a huge list of uses. JUST START…

A blue sky, green grass, oceans and lakes, rain forests and evergreens, ‘just love those magnolia trees’, mountains and mountain lions, butterflies and ants, dolphins and boa’s, are all really beautiful, majestic, intricate components of this space and irreplaceable residents of this unihabitat…let’s keep em’.

We Can Do This!

Ooh, bright and early this morning while checking my mailbox, I seen this awesome video on Yahoo’s homepage. Right away I got inspired, I knew instantly one of the items I would be blogging about this morning…I am really big on conservation, and at present I do whatever I can to reuse, recycle and simply consume less. So when I seen this video it really got my ‘brain juices’ flowing. on

Everyone has known for years that there were other alternatives to gasoline and the gas fueled engine, but those solutions have been beyond our reach. Maybe if the public outcry would have been louder, things would have begun to change a lot sooner. However, I do believe the internet has finally given us that platform, a more global means of uniting and screaming to the ‘High Heavens’. Anyway with the internet and the overwhelming evidence that ‘we are destroying our planet’ and our ‘children’s children’s children may seriously need to look to the stars for another home’, those solutions can no longer be contained, buried or stored away. The plight that faces future residence of this planet is monumental and real. We can stop this destruction, there are solutions and other ways of powering our ‘cars’, our homes.

What has Mulder been saying for the last dozen plus years…‘The Truth Is Out There’

So enjoy the vid

And do you feel the speed at which this year already seems to be zooming by. Already Easter is upon us, I didn’t realize it was this eminent. Tomorrow folks…I sure hope everyone is ready because yet another holiday is here…

-So You Think You’re Getting Old

Have you every read an article or seen a documentary that made such an impression on you that you’ve thought you would ‘pop’ if you didn’t immediately share it with someone. Yep, I bet you have…well, that just happened to me…guys and gals you just gotta read this article. I found it when I visited YAHOO this morning.

Just the title got me excited ‘The Oldest Marathoner Ever’, firstly because I was never ever able to run an endurance race and next I was curious about just how old this fellow was. You really won’t believe this…but this fellow is 101 years old…nope, this isn’t a typo…the fellow is 101 years old.

He went back to work when he was ‘99′ and he currently works 3 days a week because he was just so bored staying at home.

OMGosh, for those of us that are starting to feel the crunch of years, we really need to re-access this age thing. This fellow is going to run, and he admits he may not be able to complete it, but he is going to enter a marathon. The article goes on to say that he just completed half a marathon in 5 hours and 13 minutes.

Now, how inspirational is that, I may not be able to run but I can walk…so I think I need to get a little bit more active. Sucks, who knows where this could lead.
